Our School History

St Andrew's RC High School has been at the heart of Catholic education in East and North Fife since opening in Kirkcaldy in 1959. Established to serve the growing Catholic community across the eastern half of Fife, the school became the area's Catholic senior secondary school, providing young people with access to faith-based education and opportunities for academic success.

Our origins are closely linked to the development and expansion of Catholic secondary education in post-war Fife. Prior to our opening, St Columba's in Cowdenbeath served as the Catholic senior secondary school for pupils from across the county. The establishment of St Andrew's marked an important milestone, extending Catholic secondary education and creating a dedicated school community for young people in East Fife.

As education in Scotland evolved during the 1960s and 1970s, St Andrew's developed alongside the national move towards comprehensive secondary education. Throughout these changes, we remained committed to providing high-quality learning experiences and opportunities for all young people, regardless of background or ability.

From the outset, our catchment has extended well beyond Kirkcaldy, welcoming pupils from communities across East and North Fife. This wide geographical reach has helped create a diverse and vibrant school community, bringing together young people from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.

As a denominational school within Fife Council and part of the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh, our Catholic faith remains central to our identity. For more than sixty-five years, we have worked in partnership with families, parishes and the wider community to nurture the spiritual, academic and personal development of our young people.

Today, St Andrew's RC High School continues to be one of Fife's two Catholic secondary schools. Based on Overton Road in Kirkcaldy, we serve a large catchment area that includes Kirkcaldy and communities throughout North and East Fife. While much has changed since 1959, our commitment to faith, learning and achievement remains as strong as ever. We are proud of our history, our traditions and the generations of young people who have shaped the St Andrew's community.
