S3-4 Art & Design
Ambition, Confidence, Happiness and Respect.
Pupils will work in both the fields of design and expressive in S3. In Design pupils will develop knowledge and understanding of a range of design areas, such as graphics, fashion/ textiles and product design. For the Expressive element of the course, they will work within the fields of still life, portraiture, landscape and figure.
All work will enhance and develop the skills learned in S1/2 and cover the CfE Experiences and Outcomes in Level 3, with extension work in Level 4.
Pupils will have the opportunity to work with a variety of media to give them breath and challenge through a variety of smaller units designed to meet learner’s needs. Exemplar units include, clay building techniques, 3D clay product design, graphic design, screen printing for textiles/fashion, 3D clay sculpture and digital photography.
For National 4 and 5, the courses offered will be divided into ‘Expressive’ work and ‘Design’ work. In design pupils will develop knowledge and understanding of a range of design areas, such as graphics, fashion/textiles and product design. For the expressive element of the course, they will work within the fields of still life, portraiture and landscape.
All work will enhance and develop the skills learned in the junior phase and cover the experiences and outcomes in level 4.
Exemplar units include: clay building techniques, 3D clay product design, screen printing for textiles/fashion, graphics, 3D clay sculpture digital photography.

NPA Art and Design
There are 3 units of work:
- Mixed Media
- Printmaking
- Illustration
These units of work make up the full course which will be completed over the year.
All work will be assessed by your art teacher – no work sent to SQA, no exam.
