S5-6 Administration & IT

Ambition, Confidence, Happiness and Respect.

 

National 4

The key purpose of this course is to develop learners administrative and IT skills and ultimately to enable them to contribute to the effective functioning of organisations.

 The course aims to enable learners to:  

  •  Develop a basic understanding of administration in the workplace and key legislation affecting employees.
  • Develop an appreciation of good customer care
  • Develop IT skills and use them to perform straightforward administrative tasks
  • Acquire organisational skills in the context of organising and supporting small scale

 

How this course can help you

This course makes a significant contribution to general education through developing a range of essential skills which will stand learners in good stead regardless of the career path they eventually choose. The course will develop skills such as enterprise, employability, numeracy, ICT and citizenship. It also supports literacy and health and wellbeing and takes into account the needs of all learners by providing the flexibility for them to achieve in different ways and at a different pace.

National 5 Administration & IT

As well as further study in further or higher education, employment, or training.

Assessment

To achieve the National 4 Administration and IT Course, learners must pass all Units including the Added Value Unit. 

National 4 courses are not graded. 

The result will be pass/fail.

Expectations of the department

  • In Administration & IT pupils will be expected to always try their best.
  • There will be regular homework throughout the course.
  • Pupils will also be encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and keeping track of their progress using their e-portfolio.
  • Pupils will have the opportunity to give feedback on individual units of work as well as their experience overall.

National 5

a question paper worth 50 marks an assignment worth 70 marks

Higher

The Administration courses are set in the context of a modern business environment and provide an excellent background for pupils who wish to pursue a career in the business world and/or a foundation for future education and training in Administration or a range of related subjects.

Using information and communications technology has become part of contemporary society to such an extent that it is now an essential tool for all who work in any business environment.

How this course can help you

Study of this course will not only equip you with the level of competence required for using a range of software packages in an office environment – further developing ICT skills - but it will also encourage you to research, evaluate and summarise information in an effective way.

Students can progress to courses in Further or Higher Education, or to employment in a wide range of business administrative jobs in a modern administrative environment.
